US envoy’s words on security architecture come as complete surprise to Europe — newspaper

According to the newspaper, EU member states fear that US President Donald Trump’s administration might strike a deal with Russia that would undermine European security

LONDON, November 6. /TASS/. The words of US special presidential envoy and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on potential European security agreements involving Russia came as a complete surprise to European officials, The Financial Times reported, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, EU member states are against using peace talks on Ukraine to discuss a new security architecture. They also fear that US President Donald Trump’s administration might strike a deal with Russia that would undermine European security.

"It’s up to the European Union to decide on matters that affect its security," The Financial Times quoted an unnamed European Commission spokesperson as saying.

Earlier, at a press conference in Warsaw, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that Brussels has no intention of discussing European security architecture with Russia and the US.

On November 6, Kushner wrote on his X page that, in Washington’s opinion, potential security agreements in Europe involving Russia could include measures to maintain communication channels during crises and ensure greater transparency in the military sphere.
