Democratic takeover of Congress cannot normalize EU-US relations — media

According to the publication, Democrats will have no time for Europe because of tensions in US domestic politics

BRUSSELS, November 6. /TASS/. European officials are "under no illusion" that the Democratic Party's success in the US midterm congressional elections will automatically normalize transatlantic relations, Politico Europe reported, citing sources.

According to the publication, Democrats will have no time for Europe because of tensions in US domestic politics. On the other hand, some lawmakers and officials hope cooperation will resume in specific areas and the EU will be able to advance "projects that were frozen before."

The US midterm elections took place on November 3. The main races were for one-third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives, as well as governorships in 36 states and territories. Local government elections were also held. Republicans currently control both chambers. The incoming 120th Congress, formed following the elections, will begin work on January 3, 2027. Democrats will hold majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
