Third round of talks between government, opposition begins in Venezuela

The agenda centers around an agreement on political rights and civil guarantees

CARACAS, October 15. /TASS/. The third round of talks between the Venezuelan government with the 2015 National Assembly opposition group has begun in Caracas, Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodriguez, who leads the government delegation, wrote on his Telegram channel.

The third round’s agenda centers around an agreement on political rights and civil guarantees.

The previous rounds, in August and September, focused on discussing the reorganization of state institutions, including judicial reform, the renewal of the Supreme Court and the National Electoral Council, the lifting of restrictions on websites, and the unblocking of gold held at the Bank of England.

The opposition delegation to the talks is led by Dinorah Figuera, the leader of a 2015 parliament faction. On January 5, 2023, the opposition parliament, which had continued to operate abroad in parallel with the official National Assembly, elected Figuera its speaker to succeed Juan Guaido.
