Poland says US may deploy 15,000 troops in country

Between 6,500 and 7,500 US military personnel are stationed in Poland at present

MOSCOW, September 21. /TASS/. The United States is thinking of stationing 15,000 soldiers at a permanent base in Poland, Deputy Defense Minister Stanislaw Wziatek said.

"The Americans will continue to study the possibilities of their presence in Europe over the next two to three months. However, I am sure that a decision on a permanent base will be made and we will learn its location. Ultimately, we are talking about 15,000 US soldiers in Poland," Wziatek said on the air of the RMF FM radio station.

He added that the cost of establishing a base for American troops could exceed $4 billion.

Wziatek said that currently between 6,500 and 7,500 US military personnel are stationed in Poland.

On September 17, US President Donald Trump said that Washington and Warsaw had made significant progress in establishing a US army base on Polish territory. Earlier, Poland’s Defense Ministry’s representative Pawel Bejda said that the US and Poland had discussed deploying 5,000 soldiers at a permanent base.
