LONDON, April 1. /TASS/. Finland needs to "mentally prepare" for the restoration of political relations with Russia, said Finland’s President Alexander Stubb at a press conference following a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
"We in Finland must mentally prepare for the fact that relations at the political level will resume at some point," he told a news conference.
"We cannot say exactly when. Nothing can change the fact that Russia is and always will be Finland's neighbor. 1,350 km of neighborhood relations."
He said that relations with Moscow can improve once the Ukraine conflict ends. Only then can broader discussions about restoring ties be launched.
Stubb met with US President Donald Trump on Saturday in Florida, where they discussed bilateral relations during a game of golf.
On March 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Trump the situation in Ukraine, conditions for preventing escalation, and some international topics by phone. According to the Kremlin, Putin agreed with the American leader's proposal that both parties to the conflict in Ukraine halt attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days. According to the White House, the parties also agreed to begin technical negotiations on the introduction of a "ceasefire on the Black Sea, a complete ceasefire and permanent peace."
The key condition for resolving the conflict should be complete cessation of foreign military assistance and provision of intelligence information to Kiev, the Kremlin said.
