MOSCOW, January 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Cuba’s prison of Guantanamo should be closed as soon as possible before U.S. President Barack Obama leaves office, Russia’s Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Supremacy of Law Kontantin Dolgov said on Monday.
During the recent visit to Cuba, the Russian delegation was assured “that the U.S. Administration sought to close the prison”, the commissioner said.
“We believe that this should be done before the U.S. president leaves office. The U.S. Administration should double efforts in this aspect,” he said.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry will do its best to make the rights of Russian citizen Ravil Mingazov to be observed in Cuba’s prison of Guantanamo, the diplomat added.
“We continue the contacts with American partners on this issue,” the commissioner said.
