Russian doctors ready to keep helping Africa fight cholera and Ebola — Putin

Russia transferred 15 mobile anti-epidemic laboratories to eight African states, the president said

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. Russian doctors are ready to continue helping African countries in their fight against dangerous infections, including cholera and a new strain of the Ebola virus, President Vladimir Putin said at the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

"A specialized program of assistance to African countries implemented by [Russia’s sanitary watchdog] Rospotrebnadzor is aimed at strengthening the Russian-African partnership in sanitary and epidemiological welfare and the fight against infectious diseases. For example, 15 mobile anti-epidemic laboratories were transferred to eight states, and about 450 specialized African specialists were trained thanks to it," the president said. "Since the program is effective, the Russian side decided to extend it until 2029. I would like to note that Russian doctors provided and continue to selflessly assist Africans in combating a variety of dangerous infections, including cholera and an outbreak of a new strain of Ebola in the spring."

Putin said that Russia is ready, as before, to help the continent in dealing with the consequences of emergencies, jointly promote a balanced agenda in the field of the environment and adaptation to climate change, and to strengthen sports ties, preventing the politicization of sports.

"We will continue to provide health protection assistance, localize the synthesis of Russian effective medicines and vaccines, create laboratories and diagnostic centers, implement and adapt digital medicine platforms to local specifics," he said.
