First voters arrive at polling stations as elections begin in Russia

Video surveillance footage shows voters approaching election commission members’ desks within the first minutes after polling stations opened

MOSCOW, September 18. /TASS/. The first voters began arriving at polling stations in Russia’s Far East after voting in the country’s elections got underway, according to footage displayed on a video wall at the Russian Central Election Commission’s information center, a TASS correspondent reported.

The first polling stations opened at 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on September 17, when it was 8:00 a.m. on September 18 in Kamchatka. Video surveillance footage shows voters approaching election commission members’ desks within the first minutes after polling stations opened, receiving ballots, and proceeding to voting booths. Several dozen people can be seen at some polling stations at the same time.

The video wall at the Central Election Commission’s information center provides real-time coverage of developments at polling stations across the country. As morning arrives, voting will begin in Russia’s subsequent time zones. Elections to the ninth State Duma and elections at other levels are being held on September 18-20.
