Latvia expels 13 Russian diplomats, shuts down two consulates general

RIGA, April 5. /TASS/. Latvian authorities made a decision to expel 13 Russian diplomats and to shut down Russian consulates general in Daugavpils and Liepaja, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics announced Tuesday.

"Latvia has decided to close Russian Consulates General in Daugavpils and Liepaja and to expel 13 Russian diplomats and employees," Rinkevics tweeted, adding that this decision was made over the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.

Previously, the Foreign Minister stated that Latvia lowers the level of diplomatic relations with Russia. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow’s response to the Latvian decision "will come shortly".
