RusHydro eyeing cooperation expansion with African countries

Deputy CEO of the Russian hydropower company Sergey Machekhin said that RusHydro is studying the potential of more than twenty African countries

MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. RusHydro is studying the potential of more than twenty African countries with which cooperation can be expanded in the hydropower sphere, Deputy CEO of the Russian hydropower company Sergey Machekhin said at the Russia-Africa summit.

Among more than one hundred confirmed sources of ground and underground water supply and water use, only seven have agreed and ratified international agreements, Machekhin said. Such position causes high tension, including on borders of states, he noted.

"It is very important to create a proper scientific, methodological and political base for the joint use of aquatic resources. Implementation of water energy principles can unconditionally be a such tool," the senior executive said. "We are now working in eleven countries and are considering the potential of working with more than twenty other African nations also," he added.
