Counterfeiting decreases to the lowest in 2024 — Central Bank of Russia

Notes with the face value of 5,000 rubles (64%) and 1,000 rubles (27%) are the most forged ones

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. The rate of counterfeiting hit its lowest level in recent years in 2024, with more than 8,000 counterfeit notes found last year, the press service of the Central Bank of Russia said.

"The level of counterfeiting dropped to the lowest in recent years in 2024, with one counterfeit note per one million banknotes in circulation. In total, 8,240 counterfeit Russian banknotes and coins were detected in the banking system," the press service informed.

Notes with the face value of 5,000 rubles (64%) and 1,000 rubles (27%) are the most forged ones.

"1,875 counterfeit banknotes of foreign currencies were also discovered. US dollars still represent the vast majority (93%)," the press service added.
