Bitcoin becomes legal tender in Central African Republic

The country has become the first African state that adopted bitcoin as the base currency, head of the presidential administration of CAR Obed Namsio recalled

PRETORIA, April 27. /TASS/. Bitcoin has become the legal tender in the Central African Republic (CAR), head of the presidential administration of CAR Obed Namsio said on Wednesday.

"CAR has become the first African state that adopted bitcoin as the base currency," Namsio said, cited by AFP news agency. "This fact positions the Central African Republic as one of the most bold and long-sighted countries of the world," he noted.

Bitcoin has become the official currency legalized in CAR along with CFA franc.
