Russian presidential aide calls for balanced Navy development

"The development of the fleet needs to consider the national interests, geopolitical priorities, scientific and technical achievements, and economic capabilities of the country," Nikolay Patrushev added

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Presidential Aide and Chair of the Maritime Board Nikolay Patrushev called for balanced Navy development and updated governance system.

"Gigantomania of the fleet or its neglect are unacceptable. Modern situation calls for updating the governance system of the fleet. Therefore, the Russian president decided to withdraw all fleets from the command of military districts and directly subordinate them to the Navy commander-in-chief," he said in an interview with aif.ru.

"The development of the fleet needs to consider the national interests, geopolitical priorities, scientific and technical achievements, and economic capabilities of the country," he added.

The Navy is receiving new warships and develops according to the tasks set by the national leadership. In particular, the Admiral Isakov frigate armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles was floated last year.

"The Russian Navy already has three warships of the project. Another four frigates are at various construction stages," Patrushev said.

Besides, the Rzhev small missile ship with Kalibr missiles is undergoing trials. The Knyaz Pozharsky strategic nuclear submarine has been floated and the Provorny corvette with guided missiles is completing the construction.

"Minesweepers, ice-class patrol ships, upgraded missile boats, tankers and arms transportation ships are also constructed," he added.

The historic experience shows that "Russia created unique warships and fought on them in the direst times. We have to remember that it is easy to lose the fleet but extremely difficult to restore it," Patrushev said.
