Council of Europe delegation to visit Kiev, Odessa July 17-18

The Council of Europe says the goal of the visit is to exchange views on the latest events and decentralization in light of the European Charter of Local Self-Government

STRASBOURG, July 11. /ITAR-TASS/. A delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will leave for Ukraine on July 17-18, the Council of Europe said.

The mission will visit Kiev and Odessa for talks with Ukrainian politicians on “the latest events in the context of the political crisis”, the Council of Europe said on Friday.

“The delegation will include chairman of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Herwig van Staa (Austria), president of the Chamber of Local Authorities Jean-Claude Frecon (France) and president of the Chamber of Regions Natalia Romanova (Ukraine), as well as leaders of the Congress’ political groups and a rapporteur for Ukraine,” the Council of Europe said.

“The goal of the visit is to exchange views on the latest events and decentralization in light of the European Charter of Local Self-Government,” it says.

During the visit, the mission is planning to meet with Ukrainian Vice-Premier, Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Volodymyr Groysman, presidential envoy for peaceful settlement in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions Irina Gerashchenko, parliament deputies and the presidential administration.

“The delegation will also meet with Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko and leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Jamilev,” the Council of Europe said.

The Council of Europe delegation will also visit Odessa for talks with local authorities.
