KIEV, June 15, /ITAR-TASS/. Some participants in an attack on the Russian Embassy in Kiev on Saturday have been detained, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
“Some instigators were detained. The Ukrainian government takes all measures so that the protest action proceeds peacefully and security of the diplomatic mission is restored,”a ministry statement said.
Several hundred people stormed the Russian embassy in the Ukrainian capital on Saturday, blocking the entry to the embassy, pelting a Molotov cocktail at the premises as well as smoke barrels and firecrackers, and tearing down the Russian flag.
The Kremlin qualified inaction of the Ukrainian authorities as absolutely inadmissible. Under the Vienna Convention, “the Ukrainian side bears direct responsibility for the safety of the diplomatic missions on its territory,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
