Ukraine-NATO dialogue will help implement bilateral programmes - Ukrainian minister

“I’m aware NATO is not ready to discuss prospects for Ukraine’s membership of the Alliance,” the Ukrainian-parliament appointed Interior Minister says

KIEV, April 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine-NATO talks are indispensable to establishing relations and carrying out bilateral programmes, the Ukrainian-parliament appointed Interior Minister, Arsen Avakov has said.

“Of course, the talks should be held at a high level,” he said after a meeting with the Director of the NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine Marcin Koziel on Wednesday.

“The real steps that we're taking should yield results in the near future,” he said.

“I’m aware NATO is not ready to discuss prospects for Ukraine’s membership of the Alliance,” Avakov said.

However, he said, “If there is any chance, it should be discussed just now.”

Koziel said the Ukrainian Interior Ministry was NATO’s active partner.

Under current conditions, it is necessary to do the best to expand cooperation in the field of security, he said.
