Slovakia may sue EU if it bans Russian oil supplies — Fico

Slovakia's prime minister blasted the European Commission for inaction on the issue of reducing electricity prices in the countries of the union

BRATISLAVA, November 7. /TASS/. Slovakia may challenge in court the EU’s decision to stop Russian oil imports, Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

"We have filed a complaint against the European Commission [with the Court of Justice of the European Union] over the termination of [Russian] gas supplies to Slovakia. They are due to end in 2027. If a decision is made that at some point oil imports must be permanently stopped, we will probably challenge this decision in a relevant court," he said on a Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, a corporation recognized as extremist in Russia) page of his party Direction - Social Democracy.

Fico blasted the European Commission for inaction on the issue of reducing electricity prices in the countries of the union. According to him, the EU is facing serious problems due to a shortage of oil and rising prices for motor fuel.

Slovak state gas company SPP has a contract with Gazprom, which expires in 2034. Last month Slovakia challenged the EC's decision to ban Russian gas imports in the EU court, seeking to maintain supplies under the deal.

Russian oil imports to Slovakia are to be completely stopped by the end of 2027. According to Economy Minister Denisa Sakova, the republic is gradually reducing its dependence on Russian raw materials.
