Pentagon chief expects lawmakers to fail to ensure his removal from office

Pete Hegseth described the move as "the politics of personal destruction"

WASHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has expressed confidence that US lawmakers will fail to secure his removal from office.

Earlier, Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky said he was prepared to introduce articles of impeachment against Hegseth. Many Democratic and some Republican lawmakers have voiced strong dissatisfaction with the Pentagon chief’s actions in the conflict with Iran.

"A disgruntled, defeated congressman, along with his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly, just like they tried against President Trump twice," Hegseth said in a video address posted on X.

He described the move as "the politics of personal destruction." "Didn’t work against President Trump, and it won’t work with me. You can rest assured of that," Hegseth added.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he has no plans to fire Hegseth. However, CBS News reported, citing sources, that Trump was discussing Hegseth’s possible dismissal with his aides.
