Crowd tries to force entry into building near Kiev amid hostage reports

According to the media reports, dozens of men are being held and tortured inside the facility

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Residents of Petropavlovskaya Borshchagovka, a community on the outskirts of Kiev, are trying to break down the gate of a building where armed men are reportedly holding around 40 people in the basement, according to Ukrainian media.

A video posted on the Telegram channel of the Insider, an online publication, shows the incident, where tear gas can be seen used against the crowd, the news outlet reported. The person filming says that people are being tear-gassed while police officers walk around doing nothing. According to the Ukrainian news outlet Novosti Live, people had earlier begun kicking the gate and trying to force it open using any tools they have.

Meanwhile, the Strana online publication reports that the facility, where dozens of men are reportedly being held and tortured, is designated as a military site and guarded by armed men. According to the news outlet, at least four people are in serious condition, and one man has a spinal fracture. There are also preliminary reports saying one person has died. A doctor at the scene said that some people had been brought onto the premises blindfolded, with their hands tied behind their backs. No official information has been released so far.

Earlier, local media began posting videos from the scene. According to their reports, an ambulance was outside the building. A medical worker said she had received a video showing that some of the people held in the basement were in critical condition and that many had injuries consistent with torture. However, the men, presenting themselves as the building's owners, refused to let medical workers inside. The person who recorded one of the videos said that representatives of territorial recruitment centers (military enlistment offices) might also be at the scene.
