Germany plans electronic surveillance of Russia, Belarus from Lithuania — vice admiral

The unit is scheduled to be fully deployed in 2027

LONDON, October 29. /TASS/. Germany’s armed forces, the Bundeswehr, plan to use their unit in Lithuania to monitor Russia and Belarus with electronic warfare equipment, Vice Admiral Thomas Daum, head of the Bundeswehr’s cyber forces, told Reuters.

German troops intend to gather data on radar systems and other equipment emitting radio waves in Russia and Belarus, he said. The unit is scheduled to be fully deployed in 2027.

According to the report, German troops are testing electronic warfare systems in Lithuania, including drone detectors, signal interceptors, jammers and sensors designed to relay battlefield data to remote analysts.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected claims that Russia plans to attack NATO countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin has described such statements by Western politicians as attempts to frighten their own populations and justify increased military spending. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said the alliance is pursuing "unbridled militarization" and using the portrayal of Russia as a threat to justify its members’ decision to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP.
