BEIJING, April 15. /TASS/. Israel's Iron Dome air defense system cannot fully protect the defending side from a comprehensive attack by numerous drones and ballistic missiles, Chinese military expert Wei Dongxu has told the Global Times newspaper in the wake of Iran's strike on Israel.
"Israel's air defense and missile defense systems are unable to fully deflect saturation attacks by ballistic missiles and suicide drones," the analyst said. "Drones fly in low-altitude areas, using swarm tactics to overwhelm the opponent's air defense system, allowing for saturation attacks on targets within the region."
He pointed out that Iran also has the capability to supply suicide drones to pro-Iran armed groups in the Middle East, allowing them to use forward launch positions near Israel to engage in coordinated attacks.
Wei pointed out that Iran was equipped with ballistic missiles with a range of about 2,000 kilometers and cruise missiles with a range of over 1,000 kilometers. Tehran's firepower can cover most of the Middle East region, representing a fierce and precise long-range retaliatory means.
On the evening of April 13, Iran launched drones and missiles toward Israel, calling it a response to numerous crimes, including an air attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Tehran said military installations were the targets. The Israel Defense Forces said it had intercepted 99% of the Iranian projectiles flying toward the Jewish state, with minor damage to the Nevatim air base.
