PARIS, April 6. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron, currently on a state visit to China, told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday that he counted on Beijing’s mediation in the Ukrainian conflict, France-Presse reports.

"I know I can count on you in bringing all sides to the negotiating table," Macron said during his meeting with Xi.

Macron arrived in China on Wednesday. This is the French president's first trip to the PRC in three and a half years. Last time he visited Beijing in the autumn of 2019 during his first presidential term.

The French leader plans to discuss in Beijing the Ukrainian conflict and bilateral Franco-Chinese ties, especially those in the economy. On Wednesday, he said that China was able to play an important role in the situation involving Ukraine by virtue of its good relations with Russia. The official program of Macron's visit, according to the Elys·e Palace, ends on April 7.
