BISHKEK, November 5. /TASS/. Russia will monitor the implementation of the mandate given to the UN secretary-general under a resolution on ensuring multilingualism at the world organization, including the use of Russian, Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, said while addressing faculty members and students at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.
"On September 4, 2026, at the final stage of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution on multilingualism was adopted by consensus. With the active participation of the Russian delegation, it incorporated our key approaches aimed at ensuring equality among the world organization’s six official languages, including Russian," the diplomat said. "This issue is of particular importance to us. We will closely monitor how the resolution is implemented."
"In particular, it instructs the UN secretary-general, amid the organization’s current funding shortfall and the UN80 reform, to take additional measures to ensure compliance with the principles of multilingualism at all of the organization’s duty stations and the full implementation of events on the approved UN calendar," Logvinov noted. "Cuts to UN funding must not adversely affect the provision of timely and high-quality conference services."
According to him, a key element of the resolution is the instruction to the UN secretary-general to "take the necessary measures to ensure compliance with the official linguistic norms and rules of each official language."
