Russian recon units modify captured Ukrainian equipment for their own use — commander

The Russian servicemen send the downed drones for disassembly to their lab, hack into their software and examine their built-in features and flight paths

KURSK, November 5. /TASS/. Reconnaissance units of the Russian Armed Forces are upgrading captured Ukrainian military equipment and weapons to suit their own needs, the commander of the Battlegroup North’s 74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion, who goes by the call sign Harpoon, said in an interview with TASS.

"Reconnaissance units are also being modernized with [robotic aircraft] systems, and we have our own laboratory that modernizes whatever we seize from the enemy. We learn some things from the enemy, intercept other things, adapt them to our needs, improve them, and keep up with the times - so in any case, reconnaissance is still ahead of the curve," the agency’s source said.

Harpoon noted that the equipment being modernized consists of trophies of war or downed drones. "Accordingly, we also send them for disassembly, hack into their software, and examine their built-in features and flight paths, as well as the inner workings - which satellites they use, what stations they have, and what frequencies they operate on. Our guys do all of this in our lab," he emphasized.
