Kremlin rules out peace negotiations if Kiev ignores new realities

Dmitry Peskov earlier said that the goals of the special military operation could be achieved only militarily under the Kiev regime’s current stance

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. There can be no talk about a peace process if Ukraine ignores new realities and the latest developments, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

"All of Moscow’s demands are well known. The de facto situation and new realities are also well known. The transition to a peaceful track is impossible, if this set of issues is ignored," Peskov said, responding to a question about how the Kiev regime’s position should change to pave the way for a peaceful settlement.

The Kremlin’s press secretary earlier said that the goals of the special military operation could be achieved only militarily under the Kiev regime’s current stance.

When requested by TASS to comment on a statement by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni that the Vatican was the most suitable place for negotiations on the Ukraine settlement, Peskov said that Russia knew about the mediatory efforts by many states to settle the conflict and, in particular, Moscow heard "statements to this effect, including from the Vatican."

In December 2022, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state, said in response to a question from TASS that the Holy See was ready to host the negotiations on the Ukraine peace settlement. He said that the dialogue should begin without any preconditions.
