Declaration on Cooperation puts EU in subordinate position to NATO, says Lavrov

According to Sergey Lavrov, the Joint Declaration actually contains the Europeans’ commitments to serve US interests in terms of the geopolitical containment of Russia and China

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. The Joint Declaration on EU-NATO Cooperation puts Europe in a subordinate position to the alliance, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"Europe has lost its independence," he pointed out at a press conference on the results of Russia’s diplomatic activities in 2022. "The Joint Declaration explicitly puts the Europeans in a subordinate position to the North Atlantic Alliance," Lavrov added.

According to him, the Joint Declaration actually contains the Europeans’ commitments to serve US interests in terms of the geopolitical containment of Russia and China.
