MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. The T-80BVM tank is the result of a comprehensive modernization carried out even before the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, and it has also undergone hundreds of modifications during combat operations, Rostec reported.
"The vehicle was created no less than 50 years ago. Today, it remains recognizable externally, but has evolved into something completely new. Even before the special military operation, the T-80 underwent a comprehensive upgrade to become the T-80BVM. During the course of combat, it has been adapted to the environment, receiving hundreds of additional modifications, including enhanced armor protection and upgraded systems," the state corporation stated.
Rostec noted that today the tank is capable of carrying out a wide range of tasks - from breaking through enemy defenses with direct-fire strikes during a massive attack by FPV drones to sniper operations in coordination with a spotter drone and stealthy flanking maneuvers enabled by its quiet and powerful gas turbine engine and camouflage systems. "And, of course, it’s still a ‘flying’ tank that can leap into the air with its entire multi-ton mass from an earthen ramp. This capability isn’t just for show - the tank boasts excellent cross-country mobility over difficult terrain, as well as high maneuverability and speed," Rostec added.
It noted that the combat vehicle’s multi-mission capability is ensured by a 1,250-horsepower GTD-1250 gas turbine engine, a modern 125-mm 2A46M-1 gun, a modernized fire control system, new all-aspect protection, and a guided weapons system with gun-launched missiles.
