Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet warships practice retaking Arctic port in Taimyr exercise

The press service reported that a Ka-29 ship-based helicopter took off from the patrol ship Ivan Papanin, which was leading the detachment, and delivered an assault group of marines to the designated area

MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Crews of Russia’s Northern Fleet warships have practiced what to do if an Arctic port was suddenly taken during the final stage of their deployment in Taimyr, the fleet’s press service reported.

"During the final stage of their deployment in Taimyr, a detachment of Northern Fleet warships under tactical exercise scenario carried out an operation to resolve a crisis situation in the Arctic. Under the exercise scenario, the enemy seized the Dudinka seaport. The sailors practiced landing a marine assault force and liberating the seaport from illegal armed groups," the fleet stated.

The press service reported that a Ka-29 ship-based helicopter took off from the patrol ship Ivan Papanin, which was leading the detachment, and delivered an assault group of marines to the designated area. The marines liberated the port’s administrative building. During the exercise, the Northern Fleet troops practiced clearing the port area--which had been seized by a simulated enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group--using unmanned aerial vehicles.

As the large landing ship Kondopoga approached the Yenisei River shoreline, the DT-10PN Vityaz two-unit all-terrain amphibious vehicles with marines and engineers from the Northern Fleet’s separate naval engineering regiment were landed ashore from the twin deck. In addition, service members of the unit tasked with countering enemy underwater sabotage forces conducted an operation to prevent enemy vessels from passing through and eliminated patrols along the coast.

After disembarking, units of the Marine Brigade and naval engineers conducted a march on three Vityaz all-terrain vehicles to carry out an operation to liberate a critical facility, and cleared access routes to the port. Currently, a detachment of Northern Fleet warships continues to carry out missions of a long-distance Arctic deployment, the fleet reported.
