ST. PETERSBURG, March 27. /TASS/. A laser rifle that downs drones at a distance of 500 meters was displayed at the Pan-Russian conference on the protection of civilian facilities against unmanned aerial systems in St. Petersburg.
"According to our data, such systems are at the design stage in Russia and are not engaged in the zone of the special military operation. We for the first time display the prototype of a laser rifle that destroys unmanned aerial vehicles. It was designed against FPV drones and operates at a distance of 500 meters. The laser rifle physically affects a drone by the technology of focused ytterbium laser emission. The laser beam destroys the drone body, propeller, engines, battery, etc.," the designer company said.
The Ukrainian army already uses devices with laser emission in the zone of military operation, it added.
The Russian invention belongs to the Posokh project aimed at countering drones by focused laser emission.
The conference is held in St. Petersburg on March 27-28.
