Russia’s Tornado-S, Malka weapons help wipe out foreign armaments in Ukraine — Shoigu

The 2S7M Malka self-propelled artillery gun is considered among the world’s most powerful cannons

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Russia’s latest Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems and powerful Malka self-propelled artillery guns used in counter-battery warfare help effectively strike foreign multiple rocket launchers and artillery in the special military operation in Ukraine, Defense Minister Army General Sergey Shoigu said on Wednesday.

"The counter-battery methods as a key component of inflicting damage on the enemy by firepower are being improved. Tornado-S long-range rocket artillery systems and Malka heavy artillery guns have been involved in fulfilling this task. This helps effectively wipe out foreign rocket and artillery systems," the defense chief said.

The 2S7M Malka self-propelled artillery gun is considered among the world’s most powerful cannons. The Malka is an upgrade of the 2S7 Pion howitzer developed in the 1980s. The Malka self-propelled artillery gun is designed to strike vital enemy targets and facilities in a tactical defense depth beyond the frontlines. The heavy cannon boasts a rate of fire of 2.5 rounds per minute and can wipe out targets at a range of about 50 km. The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly posted videos of Malka artillery guns wiping out American M777 howitzers in the special military operation in Ukraine.

The Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system is a heavy upgrade of the Smerch multiple rocket launcher. The new weapon features increased range and fire accuracy capabilities. The Tornado-S also offers the possibility of entering an individual flight assignment for each shell. The system can engage targets at a range of 120 km, covering an area of over 60 hectares. The system is capable of firing both single rockets and a salvo from 12 launching tubes.
