CAIRO, November 6. /TASS/. The Democratic Party’s victory in the US congressional elections is no guarantee of peace in the Middle East, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said.
"The fact that Democrats have won control of the US Congress does not guarantee that there will be no war in the region. A resumption of hostilities between the US and Iran is a very likely scenario, and this is no secret," the Al Hadath TV channel quoted him as saying.
The top diplomat highlighted Baghdad’s determination to make every effort to avoid "being dragged into the conflict." Hussein is confident that involvement in military operations would spell "disaster" for his country.
According to the Axios news website, the US administration is considering three options for resolving the conflict with Iran: forcing Tehran to accept a deal favorable to Washington, resuming military operations or reaching a poeace agreement. "The US military is finishing preparations for a possible resumption of major combat operations in Iran, including sending more assets to the region," Axios reported, citing American officials. "At the same time, Qatari mediators are working to secure US and Iranian support for a draft agreement to head off a return to battle and possibly resume direct talks in the coming days, regional sources say," the media outlet added.
