US warned Riyadh about growing Houthi threat for several months — media

Sources cited by The New York Times added that Washington made it clear that the US would not carry out airstrikes against Houthi positions

NEW YORK, October 6. /TASS/. Washington had warned Saudi Arabia in advance about the growing threat posed by the Houthis from the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah, The New York Times reported, citing sources.

According to the sources, the US military and intelligence agencies had been warning Riyadh about the growing threat posed by the Houthis for several months. At the same time, according to the publication, Washington made it clear that the United States would not carry out airstrikes against Houthi positions.

The armed confrontation between government forces and Houthi rebels has been continuing in Yemen since August 2014. The situation deteriorated dramatically this summer. In early August 2026, Ansar Allah launched an offensive in the country's southwest and took control of the port city of Mokha and territories along the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in western Yemen on September 10-11. Government forces mounted several counterattacks near the strait in the following days. On October 4, government forces began a large-scale military operation to regain control of the country and regained control over Dhubab on October 5.
