Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) is monitoring reports of a new HKU5 coronavirus strain discovered in China, emphasizing that the risk of it being transmitted to humans by its animal host is low, the service said.
According to the service, Chinese scientists have discovered a new strain of the HKU5 coronavirus in bats, raising concerns that it could be transmitted to humans.
"Currently, the risk of transmission of the HKU5 coronavirus from animals to humans remains low, but continued monitoring and research is necessary to ensure safety and preparedness for possible challenges in the future," the statement said.
The ministry noted that the situation is under control, experts are studying the newly identified strain.
