LDPR leader Zhirinovsky buried in Moscow’s Novodevichy Cemetery

He passed away on Wednesday at the age of 75 after a grave and prolonged illness

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of Russia’s LDPR party and member of all convocations of the State Duma (lower parliament house), was buried in Moscow’s Novodevichy Cemetery on Friday.

Unlike the civil funeral ceremony in the Column Hall of the House of Unions, which was extended because too many people wanted to pay last tribute to the politician, the burial ceremony in the cemetery was attended by State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, deputy speaker Sergey Neverov, the LDPR senior officials, family members and close friends.

Zhirinovsky held a rank of retired colonel and was buried with military funeral honors.

Zhirinovsky’s funeral service was conducted by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior earlier on Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin bid his final farewell to Vladimir Zhirinovsky earlier in the day.

Zhirinovsky passed away on Wednesday at the age of 75 after a grave and prolonged illness. He had undergone treatment against the coronavirus infection at the Central Clinical Hospital since February 2.
