MOSCOW, April 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow will do its best to protect the interests of the Russian community in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting of the World Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots Abroad.
Lavrov recalled that the government Сommission on Affairs of Compatriots Abroad held a regular meeting in March, at which it stressed “the need to render complex assistance to compatriots living in Ukraine”.
“In particular, the decision was made to substantially increase the volumes of humanitarian aid,” he said.
“We will keep doing everything possible to consecutively protect the interests of Russian diasporas both in Ukraine and in other states,” Lavrov said.
Russia does not recognize the new self-proclaimed Ukrainian authorities, who appear unable to restrain radicals and ultranationalists.
US takes steps affecting Russian national interests
Seeking to prove its exclusiveness, the United States often takes steps that directly affect the national interests of Russia, Lavrov said at a meeting of the World Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots Abroad.
The situation in the world “remains contradictory and unpredictable”, the minister said.
“Unfortunately, our American partners and some other Western countries do not stop attempts to prove their exclusiveness and attempts to be guided in world affairs not by international law, but by the right of the strong,” the foreign minister stressed. “To achieve these goals, they use different, including quite unfair, methods that directly affect the legitimate national interests of the Russian Federation.”
He noted that this tactic had manifested itself in the latest events in Ukraine.
