Over 90% of polled Russians back Crimea’s accession to Russia — WCIOM

Almost 80% of respondents said Crimea’s accession would benefit Russia

MOSCOW, April 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Over 90% of polled Russian citizens have backed Crimea’s accession to Russia as a constituent entity, the opinion poll conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (WCIOM) has said.

Residents of million cities and villages, the youth and elderly people support Crimea’s entry into Russia, the opinion poll says on Wednesday.

Almost 80% of respondents said Crimea’s accession to Russia would benefit Russia.

About 35% of respondents said Russia had no need to pay the rent for its Black Sea Fleet.

Respondents also said the Republic of Crimea was a territory with excellent resorts (28%).

The opinion poll was carried out on March 22-23, 2014 and involved 1,600 people from 42 Russian regions, areas and republics. Statistical discrepancy does not exceed 3.4%.
