Trump to continue his foreign policy after midterm elections — Kremlin

According to Dmitry Peskov, Donald Trump will continue to exercise his presidential powers and everything else is a domestic matter for the US

MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump will continue to exercise his presidential powers and pursue his foreign policy after the midterm elections; everything else is a domestic matter for Washington, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"President Trump will continue to exercise his presidential powers, and President Trump will continue to pursue his foreign policy. Everything else, from our point of view, is a domestic matter for the US," he pointed out, responding to a question about whether the results of the US midterm elections could influence the Kremlin’s assessment of the Ukrainian settlement.

The US held its midterm elections on November 3. Americans elected 35 of the 100 senators, as well as all 435 members of the House of Representatives. Governor elections were also held in 36 states. According to the latest estimates by US media outlets, the Democrats are poised to win a majority of seats in both chambers of the new Congress. Currently, Republicans hold the majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

President Donald Trump said he was surprised by the Republican Party’s poor results. He emphasized that he is ready to work with the Democrats but intends to actively exercise his veto power.
