MOSCOW, May 7. /TASS/. On May 7, the Ukrainian army attempted to attack civilian infrastructure facilities in the St. Petersburg area, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

Attempted attack
- On May 7, the Ukrainian military attempted a terrorist attack on civilian infrastructure in the St. Petersburg area, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
- According to the report, at around 3:20 a.m. Moscow time (12:20 a.m. GMT), air defense and intelligence systems detected a group of six UAVs in Latvian airspace.
- At the same time, Russian airspace surveillance systems detected two French Rafale fighter jets and two F-16 fighter jets in Latvian airspace, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
- At around 4 a.m. Moscow time (1 a.m. GMT), signals from five of the six detected UAVs disappeared near the city of Rezekne in eastern Latvia, the ministry noted.
- According to the report, the sixth UAV was shot down by air defense systems near the village of Likhachevo, 78 kilometers southeast of Pskov, after entering Russian airspace at 4:41 a.m. Moscow time (1:41 a.m. GMT).
UAV wreckage examination
- Following an examination of the debris, the aerial object that launched the attack from Latvian airspace was identified as a Ukrainian-made An-196 Lyuty UAV, the Russian Defense Ministry stated.
