KRASNOYARSK, August 22. /TASS/. Russian law enforcers have thwarted the activities of a cell of supporters of ISIL (former name of the Islamic State terror group, outlawed in Russia) in the city of Norilsk, the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) department in the Kranoyarsk Region reported on Wednesday.
"The FSB department in the Krasnoyarsk Region, in cooperation with Russia’s National Guard, foiled the activities of a terrorist cell oriented towards the ideology of the ISIL international terrorist organization and operating in the city of Norilsk, in the Krasnoyark Region. <…> It has been established that the group’s members had recruited residents of the Krasnoyark Region to travel to combat operation areas to take part in armed conflicts fighting alongside terrorists and also publicly called for terrorist activity," the press service said.
The FSB added that information had been received on the cell organizers’ plans to join a terror group operating in Syria and Afghanistan. During the searches, law enforcers seized communication devices used to coordinate their activities, extremist literature and bank cards.
The organizers of the terrorist cell have been detained. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1.1 of Section 205.1 of Russia’s Criminal Code (Assistance to Terrorist Activity) and Part 1 of Section 205.2 of Russia’s Criminal Code (Public Calls for Terrorist Activity). Some of the detainees are giving confessions. Investigative activities continue.
