Gas transit through Ukraine down 5 prc, import increased 4.5 times in Jan-May 2014

KIEV, July 02 /ITAR-TASS/. Gas transit across Ukraine in the first five months of this year dropped by 5% year on year to 30.5 billion cubic metres, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry said on Wednesday.

In May, gas transit exceeded last May’s level by 2.6% to 6.1 billion cubic metres.

In the first five months of this year, the import of natural gas to Ukraine increased by 32.9% from the same period of last year and reached 12.5 billion cubic metres. Import increased 4.5 times to 2.9 billion cubic metres.

Gas production in Ukraine in January-May increased by 1.7% to 8.2 billion cubic metres, while gas consumption inside the country decreased by 12.7% to 23.2 billion cubic metres.
