Geran-5 UAVs undergo constant upgrades to strike targets in Western Ukraine — expert

The entire line of Russian-made unmanned aerial vehicles is subject to ongoing upgrades, Igor Korotchenko said

MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. Russian drones are undergoing continuous upgrades, including through the installation of jet engines, which boosts their speed and makes it more difficult for enemy air defense systems to shoot them down, military analyst Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, told TASS.

"The entire line of Russian-made unmanned aerial vehicles is subject to ongoing upgrades. Consequently, their speed and strike accuracy are improving. This process is continuing. As a result, they now have the capability to hit any targets, including those in western regions of Ukraine. In addition, jet engines have boosted their speed, making these drones harder to intercept by the air defense systems that Ukraine has managed to preserve so far," he said.

Earlier, Sergey Beskrestnov, an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky on communications and unmanned systems, said that Russian Geran-5 drones are capable of attaining speeds of up to 1,000 km/h. According to him, Ukrainian interception technologies are failing to keep up with the modernization of Russian drones.
