MOSCOW, September 22. /TASS/. Russia’s Yak-130M combat trainer effectively hunts low-speed targets, such as enemy strike UAVs, thanks to the aircraft’s maneuverability at various speeds, the state corporation Rostec reported.
"Because the aircraft itself is highly maneuverable and responsive at a wide range of speeds, we have enabled it to effectively engage low-speed targets, such as enemy combat UAVs," Rostec noted.
It emphasized that the Yak-130M has turned from a "flying classroom" into a full-fledged combat aircraft as a result of modernization. For instance, the aircraft can detect both aerial and ground targets and analyze terrain and weather conditions. It is equipped with a suspended thermal imager that prevents targets from slipping out of sight at night or in low-visibility conditions. Four-tube launchers were also added, increasing its firepower.
The "heart" of the Yak-130M is the AI-222-25 turbofan engine manufactured by the United Engine Corporation (UEC). This nonafterburning turbofan produces a maximum thrust of 2.5 tons. And for flight safety, the engine’s operation is monitored by an automated control system that guarantees high reliability, Rostec stated.
