Russian Pacific Fleet detachment arrives in Vietnamese port Cam Rahn for joint drills

The fleet’s press service said that after the exercise planning phase, the two countries’ rescue ships and submarines will practice at sea rescue operations

MOSCOW, July 28. /TASS/. A detachment of ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet has arrived at the port of Cam Ranh, Vietnam, for joint rescue drills, the fleet’s press service reported.

"A detachment of warships of the Russian Pacific Fleet consisting of the Ufa diesel-electric submarine and the Igor Belousov rescue vessel have made a business call at the port of Cam Ranh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The main goal of the Russian Pacific Fleet detachment’s call is to hold a joint rescue exercise with Vietnamese ships," according to the press service.

It noted that after the exercise planning phase, the two countries’ rescue ships and submarines will practice at sea rescue operations to aid a simulated distressed submarine.

The press service added that representatives of the Russian Embassy and the Vietnamese Navy officers met the Russian sailors at the pier. During the call, the Russian sailors held a number of formal meetings, including laying flowers at the monument to Soviet, Russian, and Vietnamese service members who sacrificed their lives for peace and stability in Vietnam in the line of duty from 1978 to 2002.
