WASHINGTON, October 29. /TASS/. The US president’s wife, Melania Trump, has confirmed the announcement by CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Russian president’s special envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev that US reporters will participate in the humanitarian mission in the town of Alyoshki in the Kherson Region as observers.
"Four American journalists from Newsmax [TV channel] will be on the ground in Alyoshki, embedded with Russian and Ukrainian humanitarian leaders. Serving as neutral observers, they will independently record and permanently document this historic humanitarian mission," the US First Lady wrote on her account on X, commenting on Dmitriev’s post on the same topic.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that, as of 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. GMT) on October 27, the Russian Armed Forces had ceased fire on the Kherson front and established a "regime of silence" in preparation for a humanitarian operation near Alyoshki.
Earlier, Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement, with Melania Trump’s assistance, to establish a ceasefire in Alyoshki starting October 29. The two sides agreed to halt all hostilities in the town to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and prepare for the evacuation of the civilian population via a safe corridor. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki critical on September 21. Shelling and drone attacks by Kiev have rendered the delivery of food and medicine to the town impossible. Of the approximately 20,000 people who previously lived in Alyoshki, just over 1,000 remain there now.
