MINSK, May 16. /TASS/. The United States and Israel have struck more than 125,000 non-military targets in Iran, killing 220 children and nearly 260 women, Iranian Ambassador to Belarus Alireza Sanei told TASS in an interview.
"According to certain data, the US targeted around 24,000 sites in Iran. A total of 125,600 non-military sites were damaged or destroyed, including shops, residential houses and apartments. Among children, 220 died, including 17 under the age of five, and 259 women were killed," he said.
The United States and Israel launched the war against Iran on February 28. On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire. According to Iran, 3,375 Iranians have been killed in US-Israeli strikes during the 40 days of the hostilities. The targets included 857 schools and more than 300 healthcare facilities, 32 universities and 20 Red Cross and Red Crescent institutions. On April 11, Tehran and Washington held talks in Islamabad, but the parties failed to reach an agreement on a long-term settlement to the conflict due to a number of disagreements. On April 21, the US leader announced his intention to extend the ceasefire with Iran. According to Iran’s state television, Tehran does not intend to recognize Washington’s unilateral ceasefire extension and will act in accordance with its own interests.
