MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications to the use of the CoviVac vaccine against the coronavirus, according to the manual for the preparation published on the website of the state registry of pharmaceuticals on Saturday.

"Contraindications are: <...> pregnancy and the breastfeeding period," the document said.

It is noted that efficacy and safety of the preparation were not studied during this period, therefore its use is contraindicated.

CoviVac is also contraindicated if serious reactions appear after the preparation is administered (a body temperature above 40 degrees Centigrade, hyperemia or swelling of more than 8 cm in diameter) or such complications as a collapse or a hypotonic-hyporesponsive episode develop within 48 hours of vaccination. The preparation shouldn’t be used either if convulsions developed after any preceding inoculation.

Other contraindications to the use of CoviVac include severe allergic reactions. It is also prohibited to administer the preparation to children under 18.

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin reported on the registration of a vaccine developed by the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products. According to him, the first 120,000 doses of CoviVac will enter civilian circulation in the middle of March.
