Crimea sees highest COVID-19 death toll this week

42 deaths were recorded over the past week

SIMFEROPOL, November 18. /TASS/. Crimea recorded the highest death toll among patients with a confirmed coronavirus infection this week, Head of the regional department of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Natalya Penkovskaya said on Wednesday.

"Over the past week we had a significant number of 42 deaths. This is a record high mortality rate over the entire period. The whole October, 75 lethal cases were registered and 81 in November," Penkovskaya said.

The key cause of deaths in the Black Sea Peninsula is a concurrent cardiovascular disease, she noted.

Since the start of the pandemic, 12,733 cases of the novel coronavirus infection have been registered in Crimea, more than 200 patients have died and another 8,275 people have recovered.
