MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. International human rights bodies ignore Kiev's crimes, including footage of prisons where torture is practiced, thereby encouraging it to commit further offenses, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
"But even this horrific footage, even today's realities, could not change the stance of the relevant international human rights bodies, with their special rapporteurs on human rights sitting comfortably in their chairs. Neither in European capitals, nor anywhere around the United Nations, its specialized agencies, UNESCO, or the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe - TASS) - nobody anywhere lifted a finger," the diplomat said.
"They stubbornly continue to turn a blind eye to the crimes against humanity being committed in territory controlled by the Kiev regime. In doing so, they encourage the militants to commit further crimes. They see that the militants have received money for these new offenses," Zakharova added.
On the evening of November 2, Ukrainian media reported that armed guards were holding around 40 men in the basement of a private house near Kiev. An ambulance arrived at the scene, and a female medical worker said she had been sent a video showing that some of the people in the basement were in critical condition and many had injuries indicative of torture. However, guards at the building refused to let the medics inside. Scuffles broke out outside the house, and tear gas was used against angry local residents when they tried to break down the gates. Only after the incident received widespread publicity was the ambulance crew allowed to take away four people showing signs of having been beaten, one of whom was in critical condition.
Police later officially reported that the house accommodated members of Ukraine's National Guard. Its Commander Alexander Pivnenko said the four injured men were servicemen who had fled their units. He described the house as a "temporary accommodation site" and acknowledged that mobilized personnel were also being held on the premises.
