Expert describes liberation of Maryino in Sumy Region as Russian army’s strategic success

Maryino is more than 10 kilometers away from the Russian border, and this is a serious bid by the Russian army to create a buffer zone

LUGANSK, May 19. /TASS/. The liberation of Maryino in the Sumy Region is a strategic success of the Russian army, allowing it to form a buffer zone near the Kursk border area, military expert Andrey Marochko has told TASS.

"The liberation of Maryino in the Sumy Region is a strategic success of our troops. The fact is that there are logistical supply routes there, through which Ukrainian militants used to transfer their forces and means to Kursk Region. Maryino is more than 10 kilometers away from the Russian border, and this is a serious bid by the Russian army to create a buffer zone, which our supreme commander-in-chief, President Vladimir Putin, was talking about," he said.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the battle group Center had liberated Maryino in the Sumy Region.
