CSTO drills in Tajikistan used experience of fighting terrorists in Syria — Chief of Staff

It is reported that the exercise was conducted on mountainous and desert terrain

Participants in the joint military exercise of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces (CRDF) of the Central Asian region Rubezh - 2022, which has just ended in Tajikistan, used the experience of fighting terrorists in Syria, chief of the CSTO joint staff, Anatoly Sidorov, said about the results of the exercises in reply to a TASS question.

"We take into account the experience of operations against terrorists in Syria. Also, we study the experience that the Russian army is obtaining in Donbass and apply it here," Sidorov said. He stressed that such exercises had never followed the same scenario. "We teach our men to act boldly and resolutely in any situation."

During the exercises, the participating forces had to operate in an extremely adverse environment, including bad climatic conditions: sand storms and heavy rain lasted for the whole week. Besides, the exercise was conducted on mountainous and desert terrain.

The exercise was held on October 10-21. The active phase began on October 17. About 1,000 personnel - military contingents delegated by the states of the Central Asian region, operative groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and Secretariat - took part in the drills. Personnel from the Central Military Region’s 201st military base constituted the backbone of the Russian contingent. More than 300 pieces of military and special equipment, including planes, helicopters and UAVs, were involved.
